Create a Custom Toolbar Layout
Internet Explorer 6 has three built-in toolbars with buttons that help you do common tasks:
1. | Standard buttons toolbar. This toolbar includes buttons for navigating Web pages, refreshing the current page, going to your home page, accessing Favorites, and more. |
2. | Address bar. You can type a Web address into the address bar and click the Go button to go to the Web page. |
3. | Links toolbar. This toolbar has buttons to help you quickly call up a favorite Web page with a single click of your mouse. Built-in toolbars in Internet Explorer 6 |
You can easily move these three toolbars to different places to create your own custom layout in Internet Explorer 6. Here's how:
| • | To rearrange toolbars, drag the Move handle that appears at the left edge of each toolbar. It is a subtle dotted vertical line. When you move your mouse over it, you'll see a double-headed arrow as shown the image below. If you don't see the Move handles on your toolbar, you'll need to unlock your toolbars: On the Internet Explorer 6 View menu, click Toolbars, and click Lock the Toolbars to uncheck this menu option. | • | To arrange toolbars so they are side by side, drag one toolbar on top of another using the Move handle. |
| • | To adjust how much of a toolbar is visible, drag the Move handle left or right. |
Here are examples of some different ways you can position your toolbars:
Example 1: Links toolbar positioned to the right of the standard buttons toolbar

Add the Address Bar to the Windows XP Taskbar
Not only can you move and resize the address bar within Internet Explorer 6, but you can also add the address bar to the Windows XP taskbar. This gives you quick access to the address bar all the time. To add the address bar to the taskbar:
1. | Right-click on the taskbar. This will bring up a menu. If a check mark appears next to Lock the Taskbar, click this menu item to uncheck it. This will unlock the taskbar. |
2. | On the taskbar menu, click Toolbars and click Address. This will add the address bar to your taskbar. |
3. | To make the address bar longer or shorter, drag the Move handle on the address bar to the left or right. Windows XP taskbar with integrated address bar |

Increase Page Viewing Space
Here are two tips for increasing the amount of space you have to view a Web page:
1. | You can hide toolbars that you don't use.

2. | You can put Internet Explorer 6 into full screen view, which minimizes the toolbars and hides the Windows XP Taskbar. This gives you the maximum amount of Web page viewing space.
